My Black Hair Story//Hair Care Updated!

After the positive review I wrote about Pure Ethical Beauty organic shampoo and conditioner, once I finished using them I'm currently trying a set of herbal hair care from Martha Tilaar.

Let me introduce the products one by one, and I'll explain why I include that eccentric little yellow bottle in the picture, lol.

From left to right:
Sariayu Tonik Penyubur Rambut
Mirabella False Daisy Hair Lotion
Sariayu False Daisy Hair Lotion
Sariayu Mayang Sari Conditioner
And the little yellow bottle; Sunsilk Co-Creations Nourishing Hair Spray.
My Hair Story
First of all, I used to have a very curly and thick hair when I was a little kid. My hair was that horrible that I can't imagine if I'm still living with that kind of hairstyle now! It looked something like this... (But I swear, mine was thicker her hair!).

People might find this unbelievable, but because my mom often washed my hair with aloe vera, my hair finally went a bit straightened, although you know -- it is never totally straight. But still, I wonder what kind of magic does aloe vera contain that it has a 'power' to change my hair structure from horribly curly to a little bit straight? Oh, wait -- it is wavy, to be exact.

So finally -- I grew up with my transformed hairstyle, from very curly to wavy:

Aha, so this is exactly how my hair looks like. I have a black, wavy and thick hair type, with annoying tangles that requires me to always bring my comb whenever I go out, especially if I let loose my hair (perhaps this is the 'side effects' from used to be curly...). I would die for a permanent smooth, organised hair; it doesn't have to be super straight like a shampoo advert, as long as my hair is free from tangles...

Lots of combings are not enough, I have to put something on my hair, especially the hair strands on top of my scalps, to always stay in place. When I was in my teens, I was using men hair gel because it's very sticky to keep my hair stayed in place, although the side effect was I got dandruff on my scalp, hahaha! Well, I didn't know much about beauty stuffs back then, and I thought the only way to get a desired, beautiful hair is to spend your money treating it in saloon. But actually, you don't have to spend million bucks to get a set of complete hair care products and treated it by yourself at home! :D

If you read my past posts, surely you're familiar with how affordable Sariayu products are. So, according to the arrangement in the picture, from right to left:

Sariayu Tonik Mayang Sari
This is actually a hair volumiser tonic. Best use to treat hairfall or hair limp and stimulate hair growth.

Currently I got hair fall at my front scalp, and it's getting more visible... Since I'm lazy to use an anti-hairfall shampoo, so this is a perfect product to fix my minor hairfall. Like other Sariayu products, most of their hair care is heavily herbal. What I mean is -- you won't find it smells very chemical, even the fragrant derives from natural ingredients, and that's why I choose Sariayu!

This tonic itself contains extracts of false daisy, aloe vera, chili tincture and fenugreek plant (tanaman klebet), which makes it smells weird... I guess it's from the chili. It's in dark green, watery liquid (totally not oily at all!). According to the instruction, you only pour some drops and massage through the scalp with the tonic. I always put it on after I wash my hair, but it can also be used when the hair is dry.

Although the smell can be a bit sickening if I put on the tonic a lot, but I'm surprised with how fast it works on my scalps. Just after several use, I've noticed some baby hairs started to grow on my front scalp, yeay! At least they're finally covered it :D

Mirabella False Daisy (urang-aring) Hair Lotion
Mirabella is a small brand under Martha Tilaar, they don't specialise in hair care but they have this nice lotion. False daisy (or as Indonesians call it urang-aring) is known to darkened black hair. It's in dark green, gel-like texture and it smells really nice! It's like, it's the nicest false daisy extract I ever smell... It nourishes hair, helps smoothen it and helps darken my black hair. Best use after a hairwash, because it's sticky and can make my hair oily when I put it on dry hair.

This false daisy lotion is the best company of Sariayu false daisy shampoo.

Sariayu False Daisy Shampoo
For Indonesians, false daisy is the natural black dye for hair. I never dye my hair, but I always want to make it darker and blacker, which is why I pick this shampoo -- aside from other hair treatment that also contains false daisy! Like Mirabella hair lotion, this shampoo is in clear, gel-like dark green, and the false daisy fragrant smells subtle. Totally love this shampoo ♥

The plant itself is also native in India.

Sariayu Mayang Sari Conditioner
I found this hair conditioner is quite unique. Whichever Sariayu shampoo that you pick, you pair it with the one and only Sariayu conditioner. Mayang Sari is just a name to label the product, don't ask me why... Because all I know Mayang Sari is a legendary Indonesian name for women (hah, perhaps in one of Indonesian folklores, Mayang Sari is a woman with a very beautiful black hair, lol).

Anyway, this conditioner is in pale green, and because it contains very little chemicals and no fragrance, it's very light and has no foam when I wash it off! That means, this is one of the healthiest hair conditioner I found in the stores. The main ingredients are extracts of false daisy (again!) and the leaves of shield aralia (also known as Mangkokan leaves).

I think Sariayu understands the importance of keeping your black hair healthy and beautiful, because almost all their hair products contain false daisy extract -- from shampoo, to hair tonic and hair lotion. However, if you're not born with black hair, don't ever try to dye your hair black with these products! The products only help to darken your black hair, makes it healthy and shiny.

Oh, yes. I forgot to insert this photo at the beginning -- Just one week ago, I bought another hair product to be added in the routine, which is Cem-Ceman Penghitam Mayang Sari from Sariayu. It's familiarly known as minyak cem-ceman, Indonesian's very own traditional hair oil, known to make your black hair becomes blacker and darker:
Minyak Cem-Ceman (pronounce: tʃəm-tʃəmɑn), the Indonesian traditional hair oil

Hmm, what should I name this in English? Perhaps we can call this, the black hair elixir. There are not many account written about the origin of this hair oil, like why is it called cem-ceman (I think the name sounds cute, anyway!), but I read from an unknown source that the recipe of this traditional hair oil was from a royal beauty secret in the past.

Ingredients of Sariayu Cem-Ceman hair oil:

1. Castor Oil, 2.  Herb of star anise extract
3. Coconut Oil, 4. Nutmeg Oil
5. False Daisy, 6. Shield Aralia leaf extract
Can you imagine how herbal this hair oil must smell? Yes, it smells pretty strong, but  however I found it exotic, like an aromatherapy!  These natural ingredients are traditionally proved to cure various hair problems. Aside from nourishing your black hair to make it shiny and blacker, but it also helps to overcome dandruffs (coconut oil) and to treat hairfall (castor and nutmeg oils). This oil is highly nutritious that  if you routinely use this, it can avoid the early growth of white hair as you age -- so here's one secret to look forever young, hahaha!

To use it, dab some amounts on hands and massage it through the scalp. Because it's very oily, this must be used few hours before hair-washing, so the oil will absorb and work its way into your hair. I prefer to put this oil on overnight before I wash my hair in the morning, and so I don't have to wait how many minutes to go before I can wash my hair.

The result? After my first use -- Oh my God, this oil is truly an elixir! It makes my hair looks less dull and shinier, almost like raven-haired brunette's. Oh by the way, ever notice black-haired Latinas? Their black hair, I think, looks different from Asians'. It's very black, dark black, the blackest black... I'm excited to see my hair looks like them Latinas when I have using this oil for some more times.

Sunsilk Co-Creations Nourishing Hair Spray
Before I end this post, I don't forget to include review about that little yellow bottle! It's the nourishing hair spray from Sunsilk in mini size, and I use this to detangle my hair. Sometimes, when I let my hair loose-dry after washing it, it gets annoyingly thicker, frizzy and difficult to style... Re-applying hair lotion is a no-no, because I mentioned it can make my hair oily, and I don't want that. So thank God, I got a savior: this Sunsilk nourishing hair spray can fix the problem! It's in small size, so I can apply it when I'm going out. I just spray some amounts on my dry hair, then comb it through and voila! Frizzy hair is fixed!

When I was a teenager, I've always wanted to straighten my hair, but because no saloons charge it with low price, I never straighten it. Someimes I think living with smooth straight hair is easier, you don't have to worry those annoying tangles will ruin your look. But think about how many chemicals will be used for the treatment if I ever go to the saloon to straighten my hair... Not forget about the unhealthy effect because it can change my hair structure and possibly will damage it.

My conclusion is, there's always a solution to fix your minor hair problem, before you decide to treat it the saloon. And sometimes, it doesn't have to be million bucks! :)
