Usually a haircare advertisement only claims it nourishes and gives treatment according to your hair needs. Well, surely they can make your hair healthy but they may not be healthy for your skin. Shampoo and conditioner contain harsher chemicals than your body care products, so they can make your skin drier after you take shower. They can also impair other skin problems, especially if you have body acne and scars (can you imagine as you wash the shampoo off your hair, the chemicals that passes down from your head to your back will absorb to your acne and blemish too? How horrible!)
Well I can't remember when was the last time I got body acne, but I have stubborn dark spots (a.k.a acne scars!) on my back, and it frustrates me sometimes, that even routine scrubbing and the spotless cream never successfully regenerates the skin cells. *sigh* I think, it's because all of this time I'm using wrong shampoo and conditioner, plus -- my previous haircare wasn't suit for me. I really needed to change my haircare and at the same time I want to overcome my skin problem. But of course, this post will mainly talk about my hair problem than my skin. *grin*
First of all, I want to try to get a healthy hair only by basic haircare: yes, just shampoo and conditioner (and lots of combing, haha!). My hair problems are kind of weird -- it's slightly dry and falling and worse, I also have tangles and dandruff!
Now I want to see if I only use shampoo and conditioner, how much it will going to fix my combination hair problem. So for some weeks, no hair serum, hair lotion, hair gel, hair oil or other hair intensive treatment products. I aim, for now and next time I will only use haircare that is made from natural or organic ingredients. I know there are a lot of organic product brands out there, but this time I would like to try shampoo and conditioner by an English brand, PHB Ethical Beauty.
PHB stands for Pure Halal Beauty. What I love about PHB is they specialise in organic hair and skincare, so you don't have to worry about what goes into your skin as you use the products. All of their products are handmade (how amazing is that!) from pure natural ingredients. They totally contain no animal products and against animal testing, so in Islamic views they're halal and safe to use :)
I absolutely love how the shampoo smells when I first time using it! As you can see from the picture, it's in clear, honey colour substance and Oh My God, I'm so hooked up with the smell -- it's like a fruit tea! Subtly sweet and a little bit herbal (I don't know why but I found this is quite like an aromatherapy :). Unlike most shampoo that comes in concentrated, heavy liquid, this one feels very light and in gel-like form.

These are my new haircare!
(Picture taken after my first use, the contents should almost reach the top of the bottles, though). To treat my scalp, I'm using aloe vera and rosewood fine hair shampoo. It is actually a shampoo for oily hair and it is anti-dandruff. Meanwhile, I know haircare for dry type contains more moisturising properties that will leave hair softer and manageable, and that's why I picked conditioner for dry hair (wild carrot and almond oil), because I only use it on my hair strands.
I don't have to worry that pairing my shampoo and conditioner for different hair types will going to damage my hair, since they are made of natural ingredients. :)
PHB aloe vera and rosewood shampoo
(I just noticed there's a typo -- 'forumla'. Hehe, it should be typed as 'formula').
PHB wild carrot and almond oil conditioner
Meanwhile the conditioner, it certainly less dense than normal conditioner and feels lighter than the shampoo. It's in milky white colour and smells like real carrot, which proves that this is really made from natural ingredients.
I've been using them for almost a week, and I've noticed that my hair is getting better! My dandruff is gone, and although my hair doesn't completely tangle-free like it's been straightened from saloon, at least it looks better, smoother and manageable without any hair intensive treatment. This is my first time experience of using organic hair products, and I really love how light my hair feels after I wash it! Unlike normal shampoo and conditioner, these ones have little to no foam at all, because they have no Sodium Laureth Sulphate -- a chemical that you're not only found in bath and hair products, but also in dish washing liquid and floor wash. The long-lasting natural fragrance is surely a bonus, but what's important is, I don't have to worry that the hair products might impair the dark spots on my back! :)
Last thoughts
Since my hair has returned to its normal state, I might change to shampoo and conditioner for normal hair. I would love to buy the ones by PHB again, but I have to think first -- look at the prices, they are very expensive! So after I finish them, I will look up for cheaper organic haircare by different brands (not forget to say, experiencing different brands is fun sometimes! :).

PHB (Pure Halal Beauty) is an English private brand based in Birmingham, UK. It's quite new, only having their first store open in December 2010 [reference]. There are not many PHB branches outside the UK just yet, but you can try to order the products online here.
